Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of BenchWrite at benchwrite.com, and of the BenchWrite Publisher plugin for WordPress. Using either means you accept them.

1. The service

BenchWrite is a subscription tool that researches, drafts and audits long-form articles, generates illustrations for them, and publishes the finished result to a website you control. It is operated by BenchWrite. Reach us through the contact form.

2. Your account

You need an account to use the service. You are responsible for what happens under it, including keeping your sign-in details and any site credentials or pairing codes private. One person or organisation per account; accounts are not to be shared or resold. You must be old enough to enter a contract in your country.

3. Plans, credits and billing

  • Work is metered in credits. Each plan includes a credit allowance for its billing period, and the price and allowance shown on the pricing page are the ones charged and metered.
  • Unused credits do not carry over. Each successful renewal resets your balance to the plan allowance.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Payment is taken by Stripe; we do not see or store your card details.
  • Cancelling keeps your access until the end of the period already paid for. After that, access and the remaining credit balance end.
  • Changing plan takes effect at your next renewal, and is shown as scheduled until then.
  • A run that fails through a fault on our side is refunded in credits automatically. Paid periods are not otherwise refundable, except where the law requires it.
  • Invite codes are issued individually and are not a public offer. Any condition attached to a code is shown to you when you redeem it.

4. Content you put in, content you get out

Whatever you supply — a brand blueprint, a website, notes, uploads — stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to run the service on it: storing it, sending it to the research, language and image models we use, and publishing it where you ask us to. You confirm you have the right to supply it.

Articles and images generated for you are yours to publish, edit and sell. We claim no ownership of them. We may keep an internal copy for as long as your account exists, so the library, queue and publishing history keep working.

5. What the output is, and what it is not

The service audits every factual claim it can and holds an article in review when a figure looks wrong or unsupported, but it is generated text. It is not advice — legal, medical, financial, safety or otherwise — and it is not guaranteed to be accurate, current or complete. Read what it produces before you publish it. You are the publisher of anything that goes live on your site, and you are responsible for it.

We make no promise about search rankings, traffic, citations by AI assistants, or revenue. The AI visibility figures in the app report what the engines answered when we asked; they are measurements, not forecasts.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use BenchWrite to:

  • publish content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, or sexualises children;
  • impersonate a person or organisation, or misrepresent who wrote something;
  • produce deliberately false claims, deceptive medical or financial information, or spam built purely to manipulate search results;
  • infringe someone else's copyright or trade marks, or publish material you do not have the right to publish;
  • attack, overload, reverse-engineer or bypass any limit of the service, or use it to defeat the provenance, watermarking or safety mechanisms of any other system;
  • connect a website you are not authorised to publish to.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, and will tell you why when we do.

7. The BenchWrite Publisher plugin

BenchWrite Publisher is a free, open-source WordPress plugin, licensed GPLv2 or later. It is the bridge between your BenchWrite account and your own site, and it only works once you pair it with a one-time code from your account.

  • What leaves your site. On pairing and on each check-in: your site address and name, the WordPress and plugin versions, and a short report of what the site supports (whether pretty permalinks are on, which SEO plugin is active, whether the uploads folder is writable, whether it is a multisite install). After publishing: the new post's ID, address, status and any warnings.
  • What arrives from us. Articles you approved in BenchWrite — the title, body, excerpt, slug, categories, tags, SEO title and description, and the images, which are copied into your own media library so the published page does not depend on us staying online.
  • What it never does. It does not read your posts, users, orders or visitor data, does not send us your WordPress password, and does not publish anything you did not approve.
  • Sites we cannot reach from outside collect their queued articles themselves on a schedule. Nothing is published without a paired site and an approved article.
  • Removing the plugin, or disconnecting the site in BenchWrite, ends the connection immediately. Posts already published stay on your site and remain yours.

As free software, the plugin is provided as-is and without warranty, in the terms of its licence.

8. Third parties

The service depends on outside providers: Stripe for payment, model providers for research, writing and images, search and AI engines for the visibility checks, Google Search Console where you connect it, and email delivery for account and alert mail. Their availability is not ours to guarantee, and their own terms apply to their part.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service running but do not promise uninterrupted access; maintenance and failures happen. Features marked "coming soon" are not promises. We may change or retire parts of the service, and will give notice of a material change that affects a paid plan before your next renewal.

10. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, traffic, rankings or data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Ending the agreement

You can cancel at any time from Billing & Orders, keeping access to the end of the period paid for. You can close your account and ask us to delete your data as described in the privacy policy. We may end the agreement for a serious or repeated breach of section 6, or if payment fails and is not resolved.

12. Changes to these terms

We will post any change here with a new date, and tell subscribers by email before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.

13. Law

BenchWrite is a United States business. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware and the federal laws of the United States, and the state and federal courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not remove any consumer protection you have where you live.
