Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it. This covers benchwrite.com and the BenchWrite Publisher plugin for WordPress.

Who we are

BenchWrite operates benchwrite.com and publishes the BenchWrite Publisher plugin. For any privacy question, or to exercise a right below, use our contact form.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your email address, sign-in method and, if you add one, your name and profile photo.
  • Payment records. Plan, price, currency, invoice and payment status, and the billing details you gave Stripe. Card numbers go to Stripe and never reach us.
  • Your working material. Brands, websites, keywords, notes, uploads, chat messages with the Growth Agent, and the articles and images produced for you.
  • Connection details for sites you publish to. The site address and, for the older username-and-password method, the WordPress username and application password you entered. For the plugin, a token instead — no password.
  • Technical logs. Sign-ins, requests, errors and credit usage, with IP address and browser, kept so we can run and secure the service.

We do not use advertising trackers, we do not sell personal information, and we do not use your private brand material or articles to train any model of our own.

Why we are allowed to use it

To provide what you signed up for (performing our contract with you), to bill you and keep the records the law requires, and to keep the service secure and working (our legitimate interest). Email you did not have to give us — like a newsletter — is consent you can withdraw at any time.

The plugin: exactly what moves

BenchWrite Publisher only does anything once you pair it with a one-time code from your account.

  • From your site to benchwrite.com. The site address and name, the WordPress and plugin versions, and a report of what the site supports: whether pretty permalinks are on, which SEO plugin is active, whether the uploads folder is writable, and whether it is a multisite install. After a publish: the new post's ID, address, status and any warnings. Nothing else.
  • From benchwrite.com to your site. Articles you approved — title, body, excerpt, slug, categories, tags, SEO title and description — and their images, which are copied into your own media library.
  • Never sent. Your posts, pages, comments, users, customers, orders or visitor analytics, and your WordPress password. The plugin does not read them, and it does not track anyone who visits your site.
  • Removing the plugin, or disconnecting the site in BenchWrite, stops all of this at once. The plugin's own stored settings are removed from your site's database when you delete it.

Who else processes it

  • Hosting and database — where the app and your content live.
  • Stripe — payment, subscriptions and invoices.
  • Model providers — the research, writing and image models that produce your drafts and illustrations. What you ask for is sent to them to answer it.
  • Search and AI engines — queried for the visibility checks you run.
  • Google Search Console — read only if you connect it, and only for the property you choose.
  • Email delivery — account, alert and reminder mail sent from mail.benchwrite.com.

Each acts on our instructions under its own contract. Some are outside your country, so your data may be processed elsewhere under standard contractual protections.

How long we keep it

  • Account, brand and article data: while your account exists.
  • After you close your account: deleted within 30 days, except payment and invoice records, which tax law requires us to keep for several years.
  • Technical logs: normally 90 days.
  • Reviews you chose to submit: kept while displayed, and removed if you ask us to remove them.

How it is protected

Everything travels over HTTPS. Your data is separated per account at the database level, so one account cannot read another's. Site credentials and plugin tokens are stored where only the server can reach them and are never sent to the browser. No system is perfect; if a breach ever affects you, we will tell you.

Where we are, and where your data goes

BenchWrite is operated from the United States, and your data is processed there and by the providers listed above. If you use the service from outside the United States, your information is transferred to the United States under standard contractual protections.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, or take it elsewhere. Send the request through our contact form and we will answer within 30 days. We never discriminate against you for making a request — your plan and price stay the same. California residents may also ask what categories of personal information we collected in the past 12 months and who received it; we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. If you are in the UK or EU you may also complain to your data protection authority.

Cookies

We set only what the app needs: a cookie to keep you signed in, and Stripe's own cookies during checkout. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so there is nothing to consent to.

Children

BenchWrite is for business use and not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

Any change is posted here with a new date, and subscribers are told by email before a material change takes effect.
